If the city successfully wins the race to host the 2012 Games, the proposed Olympic stadium which was expected to be used for the football will not be handed to the Championship club. London Mayor Ken Livingstone told media that a lasting athletics legacy will be more attractive to members of the International Olympic Committee when they evaluate the city’s bid. "Sadly West Ham won't get the stadium. It will engage the International Olympic Committee because it's the sort of facility that will attract world-class sporting events to London in the future."
