Euro 2004 Outscores Olympic Games in Ratings Comparisons

The Eurodata TV Sport Insight survey reveals that in spite of an exceptional coverage on the television screens, the Olympic Games are surpassed by Euro 2004 as far as ratings are concerned and especially in Europe. Thus Euro 2004 hold the ratings’ records in the major European countries: in Germany, almost 25.4m TV viewers followed the finale Greece – Portugal on ZDF (market share of 68.5%), in France, more than 15.3m TV viewers watched the match France – Switzerland broadcast on TF1 (market share of 59.9%), in Greece, the finale against Portugal was followed by more than 3m TV Viewers on ET 1 (market share of 80.6%), in the United Kingdom, nearly 20.7m TV viewers tuned into the match between Portugal and England broadcast on BBC 1 (market share of 72.5%). Even though, the ratings’ performances of the Olympic Games are less exceptional, they still gathered a large audience notably during certain key events.
