Knockout competition to determine UEFA Cup participating
Netherlands - 05 October, 2004
Royal Netherlands Football Association (KNVB) has announced a knockout competition to determine which club will enter UEFA’s competitions the following season. Eredivisie League champions will qualify automatically for the UEFA Champions League, while the Dutch Cup winners will qualify for the UEFA Cup. The clubs finishing second, third, fourth and fifth in the Eredivisie table will go into a knockout competition, with the winners getting a place in the third qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League, and the next two clubs enter the UEFA Cup draw. The fifth club then plays with the club that wins another playoff competition involving the clubs finishing sixth to ninth in the Eredivisie table, for the remaining place of UEFA Cup.
