ESPN is in discussions for live sports channel in Europe

The US-based pay-TV broadcaster is in discussing with European broadcasters to launch its first channel in Europe. Meanwhile, the broadcaster signed a deal with Kabel Deutschland to included ESPN Classic Sport in KDG's new digital home package, offering German viewers a sporting mix from Europe and around the world. ESPN Classic Sport already has distribution among multi-channel homes in France and Italy (88% and 100%, respectively) via affiliates such as CanalSatellite, TPS, NOOS, FTC, UPC and SKY Italia. ESPN Classic Sport is also available as a three-hour branded block to 5.9m subscribers in an additional 11 European countries. In total, ESPN Classic Sport programming can be seen in more than 14m households in 37 countries. ESPN also conduct discussions with UK BSkyB to broadcast its ESPN Classic Sports channel on the UK platform.
