The new name for the Houston franchise comes after a decision to withdrew the first proposed name “Houston 1836” since members of the Latino community were deeming to it to be offensive due to its relation to the Battle of the Alamo and deaths of many Hispanics.
"The new name is symbolic of Houston as an energetic, hard-working, risk-taking kind of town. To me, Dynamo has a blue-collar feel to it, as well as an association with the energy business, which is one of the things Houston is known for. Houston Dynamo is the new name of the MLS team due to be called. The decision comes,” Club President and General Manager, Oliver Luck, commented to media.
