English Ipswich Town has landed a five-year sponsorship deal with the Marcus Evans Group that will pay out multi-million GBP.
The business was one of many companies that held talks with Ipswich Town after E.On ended its seven-year sponsorship deal with the club. But the MEG deal is believed to be around GBP 4 million through 2013.
"The worldwide media coverage that comes with being in the Premier League, and which football attracts in general, provides a new platform to present the company to an international audience," MEG spokesman Martin Pitcher, also a member of the club's board, told the Telegraph.
Club chief executive Derek Bowden said he didn't want a lower-rung company to adorn Ipswich Town's shirts.
"We wanted a quality premium brand on the club shirt," Bowden said. "If there is a brand that is not prepared to pay a competitive rate that was maybe a second- or third-tier company in its sector then we wouldn't be prepared to take the sponsorship.
"We didn't want players running out on to the pitch with a second- or third-rate brand so it was important that we had a premium brand and the Marcus Evans Group represents that."
