Liverpool stadium will go ahead with new plans

The stadium revision by English Liverpool was given approval by the city council.

The club changed its look for the 60,000-capacity stadium, including a different design from the original plan. It was the third change in plans since the original was filed four years ago.

Some of the plans have been switched due to change of club ownership. Others because of financial concerns. Still other delays because co-owners George Gillett and Tom Hicks have squabbled with one another.

Still, it is expected to be completed and opened by Aug. 2011.

The newest plans have upgraded leisure and retail facilities. Opponents have called the stadium an eyesore.
