With sponsorship money at a premium, English Everton is using video to find its clubs name into the boardroom and get someone else's name on the stadium.
The club is sending out promotional DVDs — and DVD players — to various CEOs in an effort to land naming rights for the club's new stadium. That project is expected to be completed in 2010.
The club has engaged AEG to head up the search. The DVD contains an introduction to the property and an invitation to meet club officials. Everton officials say they just want a brand that goes well with their club, and hits the demographic of male sports fans, aged 18 through 35.
The club wants a 15-year deal in the area of GBP 4.5 million. If a potential sponsor also supports the club in another way — for example, a kit sponsor — that would be fine. It has been done at Bolton and Arsenal.
Everton expects to finish a deal by year's end.
