Canadian interested in Tottenham takeover

Adjust font size: Decrease font Enlarge font
Another English Premier League club could fall into the hands over overseas investors from across the Atlantic Ocean.

But this time, Canada is the nation in which the potential investors are based, as it appears a Canadian clique is interested in Tottenham Hotspur. Toronto-based Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment, led by Richard Peddie, visited London recently in anticipation of launching a GBP 250 million takeover of the club.

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy wants GBP 400 million for the club.

MLSE owns the NHL Toronto Maple Leafs hockey team. A source told Canadian newspaper News of the World that MLSE had been debating a move to football, and that experience in developing the hockey team could come in hand.

Tottenham officials have not commented on the reports. The club has not had any dire financial proclamations issued, and said they would have full funding for the next transfer window.

The big difference is the GBP 150 million gap between Peddie's valuation and what Levy believes it is worth.
