Polish board out due to corruption charges

Adjust font size: Decrease font Enlarge font
Corruption charges have forced the resignation of the governing board for Poland's football federation.

The board will formally resign en masse effective September, three months before the end of their terms. A meeting of the parliamentary committee of physical culture and sport had called on the board to resign.

Investigations have been underway since 2005, and 117 people have been charged. The accused run the gamut from federation members, coaches, players, club officials and referees. Former members of the national team have been charged as well.

The investigation extends for 29 football clubs.

The federation will appoint an independent sports prosecutor to fight corruption in the sport.
