Four nations tournament coming together

Adjust font size: Decrease font Enlarge font
An agreement has been made for Ireland, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales to have a Four Nations Tournament, likely beginning in 2011.

Plans were made to play Four Nations matches in February and May. There will be one host nation that will be rotated year to year. The 2011 target year is the earliest the tournament could start due to match congestion, though it could be pushed back later.

England likely will not be a participant, even though the national team competed in the Home Nations Championship, which also involved Ireland, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales. Ireland was replaced by Northern Ireland in 1954. That competition ended in 1984.
