Promotion could hinge on Leeds appeal

Adjust font size: Decrease font Enlarge font
The hunt for promotion to the English Premier League could take on an interesting twist depending on an appeal panel's decision to uphold or deny a 15-point penalty for Leeds United.

Leeds could vault into second place if the penalty — enforced for not having a proper CVA while trying to come out of administration — is overturned.

The club is claiming the Football League did not act within its jurisdiction when it imposed the penalty.

The hearing will be chaired by retired High Court judge Sir Philip Otton. He most recently headed the panel that did not allow Sheffield United the chance to appeal the decision to just fine West Ham points for the Carlos Tevez affair. With no points penalty against West Ham, Sheffield United effectively was relegated.
