Judge due to rule on Cardiff City case

Adjust font size: Decrease font Enlarge font
A judge in the Welsh Cardiff City hearing will reserve ruling until next week.

The club is battling the Langston Corporation. The company says Cardiff City owes them more than GBP 24 million in loans — plus interest — and it is due now.

Cardiff City has countered that the loan is not due in full until 2016.

Former club chief executive Sam Hammam had been representing Langston, but claimed he was not associated with the company. It was revealed in court that Hammam is operating Langston.

If the judge rules for Cardiff City, it means the club has enough merit to stage a defence on trail. If he sides with Langston, there will not be a full trial. Langston is pushing for a summary judgment.

Cardiff City chairman Peter Risdale said the club would have to go into administration if Langston won a summary judgment. A points penalty would follow, and that ruling would endanger the club's stadium plans.
