Bundesliga considering foreign club ownership

Adjust font size: Decrease font Enlarge font
A conference held today (March 5) could finalise a rule allowing Bundesliga clubs to be sold to outside investors.

Pushing for the change is Anschutz Entertainment, which has been a major player in owning MLS clubs.

Many Bundesliga club presidents have asked the league be open to foreign investors. They feel that could lead to a windfall for the German league similar to that of the English Premier League.

Revenues for the Bundesliga have slipped below the English, Italian and Spanish leagues.

Most German teams are communal in the sense they are not owned, something that has been in place since about 1900. Thousands of members vote on a president and board of directors.
