Spanish Barcelona announced EUR 9.4 million in profits at the midpoint of the season.
The club generated EUR 153 million in income and had expenses of EUR 143.6 million. Income came from television, which generated EUR 56.7 million; stadium exploitations, which added EUR 44 million; merchandising, which tacked on EUR 43.5 million and club membership, worth another EUR 8.5 million.
Barcelona management said they believe the club will increase profits in the second half because that usually is a stronger fiscal point of the season. At that point, the TV broadcasting deal with MediaPro and merchandise contract with Nike will enter the financial picture.
The club will receive between EUR 150 million and EUR 170 million from Mediapro until 2013. Nike will contribute EUR 30 million a year until June 2013.
