Rupert Murdoch has pushed forward into Germany again, with his News Corp. acquiring a 14.6 percent stake in Premiere, the nation's top pay-tv operator.
Murdoch had been burned in Germany in the past, investing in Leao Kirch's group, which owned Premiere until 2002. Kirch's financial empire collapsed with debt.
Premiere counts more than 10 million viewers in Germany and Austria. News Corp bought its stake from German cable operator Unitymedia, which had the shares from the deal that gave Premiere access to Bundesliga football.
