UEFA announces new marketing cycle for tournaments
FIFA & UEFA - 05 December, 2007
UEFA has begun the process of lining up new sponsors for the next round of the Champions League, UEFA Cup and Super Cup.
The terms will last three seasons starting with 2009-2010, according to UEFA.com. The governing body still will go with the six-sponsor format. There also will be one presenting sponsor and one official ball supplier.
UEFA announced some changes to the time and makeup of the tournaments, hoping that certain format changes might lure marketers.
"With the development to the UEFA Champions League competition and marketing concept, we expect to enhance the experience for fans and further promote the UEFA Champions League on a global level," said UEFA marketing director Philippe Le Floc'h. "For the UEFA Cup, the increased marketing centralisation is an important step in building the brand equity of UEFA's largest club competition.
"Together with the new clarity of the format, the full media centralisation and the new sponsorship approach, we are ready to return the UEFA Cup to its rightful place within the European sports landscape."
