Premier League site launched for Chinese fans

The English Premier League will get the best way to push into China — using the interent.

The league launched premiergoals.com in conjunction with portal Sohu.com, tailored for the Chinese user and football fan.

The Chinese-language site will feature exclusive stories and video. It will also offer mobile services.

Ao Ming, the editor-in-chief of Sohu sports, estimated that there are 30 million Premier League fans in China. That is a market the web's co-founder felt was easily tapped.

English Chelsea had started a site earlier this year, while Arsenal launched its own site last month.

"The backdrop to PremierGoals's decision to promote football in China is the country's explosive growth in Internet and mobile use," Henrik Barck, the firm's co-founder and CEO, told XFN-Asia. "We look forward to working to increase the fan base as well as building the club brands further."

Manchester City manager Sven-Goran Eriksson was on hand, announcing his club likely would tour the nation in May or June of next year.
