UEFA foresees more money to split from Champions League
FIFA & UEFA - 08 November, 2007
UEFA is eyeing a bigger pot split among the 32 clubs involved in the Champions League, with the governing body believing it will have a slight increase in revenue over the past year.
The estimated gross income is at EUR 824.5 million, according to UEFA.com.
UEFA splits its pot with 75 percent of the TV and sponsorship haul going to the clubs. The other 25 percent go to European football. The cap is at GBP 530 million.
Once the cap is hit, 82 percent goes to clubs, with 18 percent earmarked for UEFA's European Football pot.
There also is a fifty-fifty split from new media, half to the clubs, half to UEFA.
Clubs also receive a EUR 3 million starting bonus, EUR 400,000 a match and EUR 600,000 for a win or EUR 300,000 for a draw in the group stage.
The 16 teams playing in the initial knockout phase will receive EUR 2.2 million apiece. The eight quarter-finalists get EUR 2.5 million each and the four semifinalists earn EUR 3 million each.
League winners earn EUR 7 million, with the runners-up at EUR 4 million.
