World Cup progress pleases FIFA

FIFA general secretary Jerome Valcke has given his seal of approval for the 2010 World Cup preparations in South Africa.

Valcke, who traveled to South Africa as part of a FIFA delegation reviewing the preparations, said he believes the stadiums will be on schedule for an on-time completion.

"As of this day, I am not worried at all. I sleep very well," Valcke said. "I am happy with the preparations for the preliminary draw. There are little details to be fixed but these are just details."

But satisfied for the time being does not mean that FIFA will ease its vigilance of South Africa's progress.

"We are keeping a watchful eye, especially on the stadiums," Valcke said.

Setbacks included an employee strike at the Cape Town construction site last month. The nation also has had power cuts sweeping through, limiting the energy available to the organising committee.
