American Sports Guru, Billy Beane, the General Manager of the Oakland Athletics, is set to explore with many of football’s leading coaches what the game can learn from the latest systems employed by American Sports.

Beane’s revolutionary approach to management has seen the Athletics constantly perform above expectations. His methods were trumpeted in the 2003 book ‘Moneyball’ which remains a must read for anybody involved in professional sport.

A Tottenham fan, Beane is also playing a central role in running the resurgent San Jose Earthquakes in MLS. He is coming to London to further explore how the model he uses in Baseball can be adapted into Football.

“Everyone in sport is using some sort of objective analysis” comments Beane “The biggest key is collecting and utilizing data that is linear to winning games. I’m too respectful of the sport to say I have the formula for success but it’s something we’d like to explore”

Beane will deliver a keynote speech at the ‘Future of Football Conference’ and will then form part of a panel including Sir Alex Ferguson, Sam Allardyce and Howard Wilkinson discussing how best to maximise talent.

Issues off the field will take centre stage in the morning with Keith Harris, the Chairman of Investment Broker Seymour Pierce, delivering a keynote speech. He will also be joined by the Aston Villa owner Randy Lerner on a panel discussing issues relating to club ownership.

The conference will take place at the Marriott Hotel, Grosvenor Square, London on the Tuesday 20 November.
