Swiss High Court upholds CAS Besiktas decision

Turkish Besiktas have been ordered to pay out EUR 6.7 million to Vicente del Bosque and his coaching staff for firing them in 2005, the highest court in Switzerland has rule. Del Bosque was fired after eight months, as his team failed to win the Turkish Cup and was ousted by the UEFA Cup at the group stage.

That upholds a ruling made earlier by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). The Turkish club appealed that the CAS had no jurisdiction over salary settlement matters.

But the Swiss High Court, which does have jurisdiction over CAS appeals because of its Lausanne locale, ruled otherwise.

Besiktas owes Del Bosque EUR 4.91 million, and his two assistants, Toni Grande and Javier Miñano, should be given EUR 719,000. The physiotherapist is owed EUR 359,000. The payment will include an interest of five percent as from 27 January 2005.
