Portsmouth issues mobile and internet rights for China

PremierGoals has picked up the mobile and internet rights in China for English Portsmouth.

IMG Media, which acts as the distribution and production partner for the club, pieced together the three-year pact.

The deal provides that the club will launch a new Mandarin-language site before the end of the year. Much of the editorial and content will mirror that of the club's official site, but some additional material will be written and edited in China.

Henrik Barck, the founder of PremierGoals, cited statistics that there are 137 million internet users in China, and 480 million cell phone users.

That's a market Portsmouth believes it would be well served to tap in to.

"The Chinese market is huge and one we are very keen to tap into," said Bruce Vandenberg, COO of Portsmouth. "Our aim is to grow the Portsmouth brand worldwide and we believe there is an appetite for keeping Chinese football fans up to date with news from the club."
