Sheffield United's chairman looking into Hungarian acquisition
Hungary - 25 July, 2007
English Sheffield United chairman Kevin McCabe is pondering a move on Hungarian Ferencvaros.
Scarborough Property Group, a company owned by McCabe, has been invited by the club to tender an offer. Ferencvaros is in financial difficulty, with debts estimated at more than GBP 5 million. A takeover might be completed with an offer in the neighborhood of GBP 20 million.
Part of the deal could hinge on land development in the stadium area.
"Ferencvaros approached us to look at whether we could work with them in redeveloping the land around the stadium with the local government and redeveloping the stadium to what would loosely be a European standard," said McCabe. "We're looking at managing the football operations to make the club more successful. I've said to Ferencvaros that we would try and improve their approach to fitness, diet and nutrition, particularly along the academy side."
