Charges of unfair practices alert Malta’s OFC

Adjust font size: Decrease font Enlarge font
Malta’s Office of Fair Competition (OFC) is looking into the exercise of granting exclusive rights to sports content, especially football matches. The office launched the investigation after receiving several complaints and queries from consumers.

Because exclusive rights could raise concerns about fair competition, the OFC has begun an investigation into the complaints. The OFC said that if it finds that a violation of the Competitions Act, it will take quick action to stop the violations.

Meanwhile, the Consumer and Competition Division, working with the Malta Communications Authority, the Broadcasting Authority and the Commerce Division, has held various meetings with the operators in question in order to appraise the changing broadcasting scenario and to take action, should this be warranted.
