IMG and Goteborg end deal

Swedish IFK Goteborg and IMG have parted ways after just spending eight months together in what was a 13-year deal.

"It is possible that we were a bit optimistic," said club chairman Stig Lundstrom. "Now we see that we as a club reach local sponsors [easier than international ones], and primarily in the Vastra Gotaland district. It is possible that we do better ourselves. We may hire someone but we will only do that if we can afford it. We are not a club who are spending too much money."

The club has had issues, including a recent accusation of tax evasion. IMG chief executive Martin Englund said the court case did not put an end to the agreement. He believes the recent increase in crowd trouble has scared off sponsors, even though he added that "that is not only IFK's problem but rather football as a whole."

IMG terminated a similar deal last season with Malmo FF, another Swedish Premier League club.
