Rangers, Galaxy view player exchanges

Scottish Glasgow Rangers and MLS LA Galaxy could strike a player exchange deal.

"We will be holding talks with a view to setting up an exchange scheme that can help develop players on both sides of the Atlantic," Rangers' Manager Walter Smith told the Scottish Daily Express.

Smith pointed out the Galaxy could reap a windfall of U.S. talent, acting as a magnet after signing David Beckham.

Galaxy general manager and former U.S. international Alexei Lalas felt the moved benefited both clubs.

"Establishing connections is important for us and Rangers coming into that," Lalas said. "For us, it is a chance to tap into their history and expertise."

Visas would be needed to sign players to a professional contract, but there are no obstacles to prevent younger players from switching between both clubs and a non-professional basis.

The two clubs will face each other in a friendly next month in the U.S. on May 23.
