FAI predicts significant earnings increase for 2007
R. of Ireland - 20 March, 2007
The FA of Ireland is predicting earnings of more than EUR 45 million this year, which is a significant increase from previous years, and is mainly due to improved television rights, new sponsorship deals and the move to Croke Park for international matches.
Over the next ten years, the FAI expects to generate about EUR 100 million from long-term ticket sales for the redeveloped Lansdowne Road stadium.
The association will begin to market and sell ten-year corporate tickets after formal approval for the EUR 365 million redevelopment is received from An Bord Pleanala.
The association had a turnover of EUR 23.7 million in 2005, and about EUR 30 million last year. According to internal FAI forecasts, the association should net between EUR 7 million and EUR 9 million in television rights from the Euro 2008 qualifier against Germany, which takes place at Croke Park in October.
The biggest revenue boost will come from the four international matches that the Ireland club will play at Croke Park.
The FAI will now be able to sell more than 74,000 tickets for events at Croke Park compared to less than 40,000 at Lansdowne Road.
The stadium has been sold out for the qualifier against Wales, which will be the first football match played at Croke Park.
State funding for the FAI has been increased to EUR 4 million and there is a potential multi-million euro windfall from the sale of the association's headquarters at Merrion Square in Dublin.
The FAI will move to new premises at the national sports campus in Abbotstown in west Dublin, during the next year.
