Ferrero Switzerland has become the fourth Swiss sponsor to complete the country's marketing programme for UEFA EURO 2008, joining UBS, Swisscom and Hublot.
With just 15 months until the start of UEFA EURO 2008, the announcement represents an excellent platform for the development of synergies among the sponsors that will contribute actively to the organisation of a spectacular event.
Ferrero, which was founded in the Italian town of Alba in 1946, has 36 branches, 15 production sites and almost 20,000 employees worldwide. The company is a European leader in sales of chocolate-based products, including leading brands Nutella, Kinder Surprise and Ferrero Rocher.
Ferrero Switzerland has a lot of experience as a football-related sponsor and has been a partner of the Swiss national football clubs since 2005.
Former Switzerland forward Stéphane Chapuisat is an ambassador for both Ferrero and UEFA EURO 2008.
"Ferrero has always been closely associated with the world of sport," said Roberto Grasso, CEO of Ferrero Switzerland.
"We are the official sponsor of various national teams in different sports and are keenly involved in the area of children's and youth sport. Since July 2005, Ferrero has been an official partner of the Swiss national football team and is now building on this successful tradition by sponsoring UEFA EURO 2008.
"Through our commitment to this unique football event in the life of Switzerland and its people, we want to express our enthusiasm for sport and for the pleasure of leading an active, healthy life, as symbolised by sport."
Philippe Margraff, director of UEFA Marketing & Media Management, expressed his outlook regarding the new sponsor.
"We are delighted to have completed our UEFA EURO 2008 marketing programme with the support of Ferrero in one of the key sectors of the Swiss economy," said Margraff.
"Nutella and Kinder will convey our passion for UEFA EURO 2008 to young footballers throughout Switzerland. We are also pleased to have the support of Stéphane Chapuisat as an ambassador for the success of this partnership in Switzerland."
Ralph Zloczower, president of the Swiss FA and member of the board of administration of Euro 2008 SA, was equally pleased.
"I'm delighted to welcome Ferrero on board as the fourth National Supporter for Switzerland," he said. "As a market leader in Europe in the confectionery sector, and thanks to their international market orientation, Ferrero is an ideal partner for UEFA EURO 2008."
