Spartak Vladikavkaz appoints new head

Nikolay Khlyntsev, local prime minister of the Russian Republic of North Ossetia, was appointed head of First Division Russian Spartak- Vladikavkaz by President Teimuraz Mamsurov.

The club, which went under the name of Alania a year ago after relegation from the Premier Liga, was thrown out of the league because Alania's president at that time, Sergey Takoyev, was charged with stealing approximately EUR 7 million. The club was renamed to Spartak-Vladikavkaz and was sent to the lower division.

Last season Spartak achieved promotion to the top flight and Mamsurov said that the Republic would help the club get back to the Premier Liga.

The club fired coach Boris Stukalov, who led it to promotion, and then appointed a local man, Stanislav Tskhovrebov, as his replacement.

In February, Spartak's field in Vladikavkaz will be the scene of a UEFA Cup match between CSKA Moscow and Israeli Maccabi Haifa. Moscow's manager, Valery Gazzayev, won the league in 1995 with Spartak.
