According to a survey of British footballers and foreign players in the Premier League, David Beckham remains the go-to player on football's high earners list.

Despite a reduction of time at Spanish Real Madrid this season, Beckham leads the poll with GBP 87 million, more than twice that of second-place Michael Owen, who was valued at GBP 32 million.

Beckham's income is from his GBP 4.4 million a year contract with Real Madrid – which expires this summer – and advertising contracts with the likes of Gillette, adidas and Pepsi. Despite losing lucrative deals with Vodafone and Police sunglasses, Beckham still paid himself a GBP 19 million salary last year from his company, Footwork Productions Ltd.

Robbie Fowler has made smart investments in the property market, and along with his Liverpool pay, rounds out the top three with a value of GBP 28 million.

Chelsea's Andriy Shevchenko is the top foreign earner in England, placing seventh on the list with his GBP 121,000-a-week deal at Stamford Bridge . His value is GBP 22 million, GBP 1 million ahead of Arsenal's Thierry Henry.

Chelsea's Michael Ballack completes the top 10 with GBP 18 million despite a GBP 130,000-a-week deal with the club.

The survey found a total of GBP 13 billion in foreign investments pouring into the league. The figure could be bumped even higher should Dubai 's billionaire ruler Sheik Mohammed complete his GBP 450 million takeover of Liverpool.

Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich tops the list with a GBP 10.8 billion fortune.
