English Chelsea FC has launched a new website for the club's fans to have an interactive online experience. The web is the heart of Chelsea's global communications strategy.

The club's site had 18 million page impressions and 1.4 million unique users per month with most of those coming from the United Kingdom, United States and Germany.

"Chelsea's vision is to be internationally recognised as the world's number one football club by 2014 and this new site is a vital part of making that happen, said Peter Kenyon, Chelsea's Chief Executive. "A converged digital media strategy is at the heart of Chelsea's business plan and relationship with its fans.

"The site also represents the Chelsea brand in great fashion, it is stylish, innovative and in our build partner PTV we have aligned ourselves again with another market leader in the relevant sector."

In May 2006, research by leading international company Sport+Markt estimated that Chelsea had 3.8 million fans in the United Kingdom and 20 million worldwide.

"Chelsea's desire to create something extraordinary and our digital expertise has helped us launch something that has set the bar for the rest of the sports industry, said Oliver Slipper, CEO of Premium TV. "The design of this new site and the fresh approach to usability and interaction means that the club has something special that nobody else has."

The site, which is part of the Chelsea Digital Media joint venture between Chelsea and Sky, features state of the art design, functionality and features. A first for the football industry, visitors can view the entire contents of the site on one page and choose to zoom in and zoom out on pages of their choice.

The site is built entirely in Flash technology and can be used for social networking, user-generated content, blogging and editorial content, by way of the Your Chelsea satellite site.

The site, which is fully broadband and mobile enabled, was developed with Web 2.0 firmly in mind after consultation with Chelsea fans, focus groups, and stockholders.
