Leagues contemplate action against Google

Germany's Deutsche Fussball-Liga (DFL) and the English Premier League are among the European professional sports organisations pondering legal action against Google Inc.
A spokesman for the Premier League said the body wants Google to block video clips from appearing on Youtube, a U.S. company. The use of video clips from its matches on a Youtube website is the cause of contention, Handelsblatt reported.
"It is not enough that Google removes the material after we write them a letter," a spokesman told Handelsblatt.
A DFL spokesman added that its own business suffers when the clips appear on Youtube because the DFL is selling German football league Internet broadcast rights to other parties.
"We sell our rights to partners for a lot of money," the spokesman said. "Youtube's offerings naturally damage their rights."
Contacted by the newspaper, a Google spokesman said that his company respects all copyrights.
