Barclays and the Football Foundation have given a GBP 600,000 grant to English Aston Villa for a new sports facility.

The grant is part of the GBP 30million Barclays Spaces for Sports initiative to create sustainable sports facilities across the UK. An amenity for Aston Villa includes a new full size, floodlit Astroturf pitch.

In addition to the GBP 600,000 grant, the club will receive kit and equipment worth GBP 5,000, and a GBP 45,000 development fund from Barclays to ensure its sustainability. It is the first stage in a GBP 10.5million redevelopment of Aston Park, with further funding being provided from a variety of sources.

The facilities at the site, which is immediately adjacent to Villa Park, will provide sports facilities to local residents, with activities such as football and hockey available.
