Prosecutor will not look into Turkish match-fixing allegations
Turkey - 04 August, 2006
The Anatolian news agency reported a Turkish prosecutor will not probe match-fixing allegations in the nation's football league because it lies outside his jurisdiction.
The allegations involve Denizlispor officials who are alleged to have offered to pay three Malatyaspor players to throw a game with Gaziantepspor. That would have helped Denizlispor avoid relegation on the last day of the season.
Malatyaspor lost 1-0 and were relegated. Denizlispor, which has rejected the claims, ended the season 15th and avoided relegation.
The prosecutor of Denizli province sent the dossier on allegations to the Turkish Football Federation (TFF) to make the final decision on match-fixing allegations.
