UEFA has awarded the broadcast rights to Portugal and Germany for the 2006-2008 UEFA quarterfinals, semifinals and finals.
RTP won the rights in Portugal, while Premiere took the German broadcast rights.
"Both these countries have a successful track record in the UEFA Cup and are important markets for UEFA," UEFA Chief Executive Lars-Christer Olsson said. "We are very pleased that by purchasing these rights both RTP and Premiere have confirmed their commitment to European club football and to providing the best possible service to the football fans of Portugal."
In Portugal, the rights to the first choice of matches, as well as highlights each matchnight were granted to RTP. The rights to broadcast the remaining UEFA Cup matches – both live and as highlights – have not been finalised. RTP also will be able to show the next three editions of the UEFA Super Cup.
Premiere was granted German rights on a non-exclusive basis for pay TV, together with the exclusive rights for the remaining games and highlights.
Subscribers will be able to watch all matches from the last eight to the final each season, together with the next three UEFA Super Cups.
The German free-to-air rights to broadcast the first choice UEFA Cup matches, simultaneous to Premiere's broadcasts, have yet to be awarded.
