Mainz to increase stadium capacity

The newly promoted 1. Bundesliga club has announced plans to increase the capacity of its am Bruchweg stadium to more than 20,000. The club made the decision after season tickets for the 18,600 capacity ground sold out ahead of the new season. Two temporary stands will be installed in time for the club’s second home game of the season, providing 1,600 new seats. However, the increased capacity will not mean more money for the club, as the extra revenue gained from ticket sales will be used to cover the cost of hiring the stands.
