UEFA opens sales for broadcast rights

UEFA has opened sales to any broadcasters for a package of UEFA Cup and Super Cup rights, according to the UEFA website. In EU/EEA countries, the process will adhere to the principles agreed between UEFA and the European Commission on marketing the UEFA Champions League. TEAM Marketing AG will conduct the sales on UEFA’s behalf.

The terms will be for no more than three years, and will be split into packages. Two packages will be available, with one including the first choice of contests on each UEFA Cup match night, and the UEFA Super Cup. The other is made up of all other UEFA Cup live matches. The rights also include all matches of the UEFA Cup beginning with the quarter-finals and lasting through the finals. Beginning with the August 2006 match, three UEFA Super Cups will be included.

“By centralising the rights package from the quarter-final stage onwards, we will now be able to further develop the brand identity, enhance the TV production and encourage greater promotion of the competition,” UEFA chief executive Lars-Christer Olsson said.
