The former chairman of the Ligue 1 club, Laurent Perpere, is under investigation for allegedly using forged documents as part of an illegal payment scheme, the French prosecutor's office announced. Perpere has denied the claims in an ongoing inquiry which involves payments made to players by officials from sports manufacturer Nike, who were placed under investigation in January.
Perpere was the club’s chairman between 1998 and 2003, just before Francis Graille. Graille was placed under investigation last month for the same reasons.
Officials claim that approximately EUR 15 million was moved from an account in Luxemburg through a Dutch subsidiary of Nike to PSG players and former coach Vahid Halilhodzic.
Canal Plus is currently selling PSG to a group of investors led by US investment fund Colony Capital and Luc Dayan, the former chairman of fellow Ligue 1 club Lille.
