Scandinavian Royal League suffering from plummeting attendance figures
Norway - 13 April, 2006
The second season of the Scandinavian Royal League, comprised of clubs from Norway, Sweden and Denmark, has seen a huge drop in attendance. In its inaugural season, 260,000 fans watched 48 games. This past season, that number dropped to 180,000 before the final between Denmark’s FC Kopenhagen and Norway’s Lillestrom.
“We are hoping that the figures will become much better but you have to remember that the weather hasn’t been kind to us this season, especially in Norway and Sweden,” Thomas Christensen, who sits on the Royal League board, said to news agency Ritzau.
There has been a 16 percent drop in attendance in Denmark, six percent in Sweden and a massive 73 percent drop for Norwegian spectators.
