The Major League Soccer (MLS) club has signed its first sponsor for a new stadium opening in 2007, with soft drink giant Coca-Cola agreeing to a 15-year agreement with the club. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Coke will be the official non-alcoholic beverage at the new US 50 million, 22,000-seat stadium, which is scheduled to open next year at Commerce City, located near Denver. The stadium is part of a US 130 million soccer complex that includes 24 practice fields. The 917-acre complex will also feature retail and commercial properties.

The deal with Coke is the first of 10 “founding sponsors” the club is looking to add for the new stadium, according to club owners Kroenke Sports. The company – which also owns the National Hockey League’s Colorado Avalanche and National Basketball Association’s Denver Nuggest – also is seeking a 20-year sponsor for the stadium’s naming rights.
