Inspired by rival fans, supporters of the Allsvenskan club want to raise EUR 500,000 for their club to use on players. The move follows fundraising efforts by Gothenburg fans, which allowed the club to sign Mathias Gravem and Patrik Elmander, and EUR 22,600 raised last year by fans of Orgryte IS.
“We hope to give the club up to EUR 500,000,” Markus Hankins, the founder of IFK Goteborg’s support fund, said. “Our aim is to tenfold what Orgryte IS fans did. So the first aim is EUR 200,000 but we are hoping for EUR 500,000.”
Taking into account, the club’s large fan base, Hankins went on to say, “It may seem a bit cocky but we are he big brother of Gothenburg. I think it is time to show how many of us there are and how involved we are. And there are some companies who have showed an interest as well.”
