Crewe Alexander seeks capital though new shareholder

The Championship club board has decided that the best way to advance the interests of the club is to seek new shareholders and new capital. The club published an advertisement in the Times newspaper offering a potential investor to acquire a controlling interest. Net asset value of the club was stated as around GBP 8 millions.

"To take the club forward, we need to get more investment into the club," chairman John Bowler, who is not a major shareholder himself, told the BBC. "If we're going to be a Championship club in the future we have to find ways of paying bigger wages to players."

Daniel Potts, one of the club’s largest shareholders (22.9 percent) has been trying to sell his shares for some time now having failed to make it onto the board. According to reports either Norman Hassall or Norman Rowlinson, two other large shareholders, will now sell their shares in order for the club to seek an investor prepared to inject cash into the club. Norman Hassall owns 25.75 percent of the equity and Norman Rowlinson owns 24.28 percent. In order to gain a full controlling interest (over 51 percent), either all three shareholders will have to sell to a new investor or a new buyer will have to attempt to buy some of the 13.37 percent of shares currently held by a total of 860 smaller shareholders.
