Polish PM announces stadia project

Polish Prime Minister Kazimierz Marcinkiewicz has announced plans to construct five new football stadiums in order to boost his country's chances of hosting UEFA Euro 2012. Poland has put in a bid to host the competition alongside the Ukraine and the prime minister believes the country's sporting infrastructure needs to be improved so as to stand any chance of securing hosting rights to the tournament.

"The construction of a national stadium and another four stadia would allow us to organise one of the biggest sporting events in the world," Marcinkiewicz said. "I hope that thanks to these investments we will be the organisers of the European Championships in 2012." Poland and the Ukraine face competition from Italy and a joint Croatia-Hungary bid.
