UEFA has kicked off the broadcast rights sales process for EURO 2008 in Europe, according to a report on its website. Sales will be conducted on a market- by-market basis on UEFA's behalf by SPORTFIVE, UEFA's European agent for the exploitation of the tournament’s broadcast rights. Alongside the host nations of UEFA Euro 2008, Austria and Switzerland, the first country to be approached as part of the sales process will EURO 2004 champions Greece.

UEFA chief executive Lars-Christer Olsson said: “The UEFA European Football Championship is one of the three major sports properties in the world. With this in mind and in respect to the broadcasting rights for UEFA EURO 2008, we have taken the strategic decision to pursue a market-by- market approach, which will allow us to talk to all broadcasters in each territory, and to achieve the best-ever broadcast platform for a European Football Championship plus the best possible financial outcome for the entire European football family. UEFA EURO 2004 was widely acclaimed as the best European Football Championship ever staged. However, at UEFA we thrive on challenges and, together with our Austrian and Swiss hosts, we are confident that we can now scale new heights for UEFA EURO 2008.”
