Athletic Bilbao to pursue shirt sponsorship

The Primera Liga club which is a member-run institution have again asked and received permission from members to accept shirt sponsorship. The club which until now has refused to deal with shirt sponsorship claims that the need to maximize revenue is now fundamental. The club previously asked its members to give the green light to plans for a shirt sponsor in 1991, apart from a short deal last year with the local government to promote the Basque region on the club’s shirts. The board is also discussing the issue of advertising hoardings around the stadium and is planning to construct a new ground by 2010.
