Debts become crucial to Sporting Gijon's future

The Segunda Liga club debt to the tax authorities is the issue that the struggling club’s survival will depend on, according to the latest financial reports. Administrators Celestino Suarez Vinuela, Antonio Gonzalez-Busto and Juan Miguel Gonzalez understand that Sporting, whose debts have crept above GBP 50m, “has found itself in dissolution for the past three financial terms and the share issues carried out to rectify the situation have ended in total disaster.” The majority of the debt is owed to the tax authorities and the club must find a solution in order to move on. “Getting over the current state of affairs seems extraordinarily difficult and is inevitably linked to results which are outside any company’s control,” a statement read. The administrators believe the promotion of the team and its subsequent sale necessary to turn matters around.
