UEFA changes the Intertoto format

Adjust font size: Decrease font Enlarge font
UEFA's Intertoto Cup format is set to change from the 2006/07 season to include three rounds instead of five. The 11 winning teams from the Intertoto Cup third round will go through to the second qualifying round of the UEFA Cup. As the system stands at the moment, teams play five rounds, with three progressing to the UEFA Cup first round. "Eleven sides, instead of three, will qualify for the UEFA Cup," communications director William Gaillard said. "We will also endeavor to have one participant from the member associations. If this is not the case because of vacancies, or countries not entering teams into the competition, then we will establish criteria to designate clubs from other associations to enter the competition."
