Nike is accused of helping PSG to avoid tax payments

The authorities which investigate the irregularities in transfers made by the Ligue 1 club between 1999 and 2003, have expand their probe to include the US-based sports goods manufacturer.

A report by Le Monde newspaper claims that Nike allegedly established a system to assist the club to save on tax payments, paying a share of the players’ wages through image rights deals and sponsorship deals, and then recovered from the club by presenting false invoices. The false invoices presented fines put on players for not having respected terms of the agreements at an interview or a public appearance by failing to wear Nike apparel. The scam has been reveled from an internal audit ordered by Vivendi Universal, the firm that owns PSG through subsidiary Canal , and the system of such payments has reportedly been confirmed by various players.
