Major League Soccer (MLS) Commissioner Don Garber plans to meet with Milwaukee city officials on 8 September to discuss plans for a football specific stadium in the centre of town and possible expansion franchise. Milwaukee Professional Soccer, along with Pegasus ParkEast Partners, are hoping to build a mixed-use complex to include a 20,000-seat stadium along with retail, commercial and residential units. Peter Wilt, chief executive officer of the group and also General Manager of the Chicago Fire until the end of this season, confirmed Garber’s visit and said that he will meet with city mayor Tom Barrett. Garber will also get together with potential investors and local media. "It's critical to the project. It gives us an opportunity to show the league why we think Milwaukee and Wisconsin is viable," Wilt said. "It will also give our investors, the mayor and other constituencies an opportunity to hear from the commissioner about the league and the requirements to award a team to Milwaukee." Two more sides are expected to join the league in 2007, although Milwaukee would not be ready until 2008. Garber eventually wants eighteen teams competing from both the United States and Canada.
